Name:

Fabio.

Species:

Parakeet (Melopstittacus undulatus.)

Sex:

Male.

Age:

2 1/2 years.

Favorite Foods:

According to his owner, Michelle, Fabio loves anything honey flavored, and anything that she eats.

Favorite Toys:

Fabio is crazy about bells. "He could sit under one for hours just sticking his head in it and singing" Michelle says. "His favorite toy is a plastic perch with a mirror on top and a bell on bottom."

Favorite Perches:

Fabio's favorite thing to do is to ride around on Michelle's shoulders.

Dislikes:

Apparently, the only thing that Fabio really doesn't like is being away from Michelle! "What is unique about Fabio is his love of human contact" she says. "He goes crazy when I start to scratch his head and constantly rubs against my fingers to get attention."

Special Talents:

Fabio best talent is coming whenever Michelle calls him. He's also an accomplished whistler.

Life with Fabio:

Michelle found Fabio at a pet store when he was just a few weeks old. "I picked him because of his beautiful turquoise color, which he still has" she remembers. "Fabio was unlike any bird there."

Fabio quickly won Michelle's heart and became her constant companion. He is Michelle's first bird, and she says that she really likes the way that he "always lets me know that he loves when I am around him. He has to be the most loveable Parakeet that I have ever seen."

It seems that Fabio's gentle nature knows no bounds. Michelle reports that he "almost never bites, and when he does it's just a warning nip that he's in a bad mood."

Fabio's great personality apparently inspired Michelle to share her life with another feathered friend. Last year, he got a companion named Sprite, who is a yellow female Parakeet.

That's why Fabio is this week's "Bird of the Week". Through his love and innocent beauty, he opened his owner's heart to the joy that bird ownership can bring into our lives -- and that makes him one amazing little bundle of feathers!
