Scarlet Macaws as Pets

Wednesday June 24, 2009
Scarlet Macaws have been popular with bird owners for many years, and it's no wonder why -- they are beautiful, intelligent, and they make exceptional companions.

The Scarlet's striking plumage may be what draws many to the bird, but its personality is what keeps them coming back for more. Confident and friendly, Scarlets are usually eager to take on tasks such as learning tricks, and many even develop vocabularies of several words.

Find out more about Scarlet Macaws and keeping them as pets in this Scarlet Macaw Profile.

Hi enjoyed your article on scarlet macaws. I have owned one now for about 6 months and I love her to death. I have all birds all my life but she if my favorite. So funny and so playful and has the sweetest little childs voice I have ever heard in a bird. I dont thiink there is no better bird than a scarlet. A friend of mine raises macaws and she told me they can be difficult and nippy. she has been neither for me but just a total joy. she also is super quiet never screams so i am very lucky I got a great one. She is 4 years old and a female but have a good day enjoyed your post! bye
