Love our Lovebird

I would recommend that, as a parent, if you are buying a bird for your child, you should be prepared to care for and pay attention to the bird also. I have had Lovebirds since I was 12 and now my 6 and 7 year old daughter's have their first Lovebird. They love spending time with him, but I also handle him throughout the day. I want to teach my children the responsibility and rewards of having a pet, but I also realize that they are only children and they can not be relied on exclusively to care for a bird such as a Lovebird. The purchase of a bird as a pet should not be done so without thinking it through, and be prepared it provide a Life Long Home for your bird. Any pet can be very rewarding if you are prepared to invest the time into them. But a bird is definately a huge commitment.

Cockatiels

I have owned several birds in the past (about 20 or so at once) but now live with 5 relatively new birds. Out of all the birds I have ever tamed, I find cockatiels to be the most loving and sweet birds. My cockatiel has learnt tricks as basic as Step-up to more advanced tricks such as balancing another bird on her back. She loves kids and anyone who feeds her, really. But I still think that parents shouldn't give birds to their children, because it's common for kids to neglect their pets and leave them to die not only out of hunger, but loneliness too.

I am a kid!

I have 3 birds and they make great pets for kids. So the first response just shut up (it is by guest birdman)

no kids

In my opinion Birds are poor pets for Kids, teenagers maybe, I have 7 birds. Birds are wild animals that will accept a human as one of them but there not domesticated animals

A list of birds

Finch canary budgie cockatiel lovebird linnie parrotlet or a quaker would be a great pet for an OLDER child. A young chil might hurt the bird so, do not buy a bird for someone under the age of 8 for the saftey of the bird ! hope this helped! From,123 BIRDY!

Finches Or not For Kids

Finches are easily frightened and can go into shock and have heart-attacks if your kid decides it's play time when your not looking. As pretty as these birds are they are extremely fragile and strictly eye candy when in captivity. My point of view is if you can't train it to a certain extent or handle it, it should be left in the wild.
