Breeding Lovebirds

I have a pair of lovebirds who I provided with a nest box and now there are 3 eggs in the nest. I would like to know what to feed the babies once the hen has fed them for the first 2-3 weeks.

breeding birds

back in nov. 2011 bought two darling parakeets. noticed the female recently searching for threads. bought a nesting box and it is great to see the process of how she is preparing the nest inside and actually 'trimming' the wood around the box. wish me luck on the rest of the adventure. i hope to do this correctly and have more parakeets soon. also have another cage for when the babies are bigger and begin to annoy the parents.

Female was getting destructive

I wanted a bigger cage for the parakeet we already owned and I found one I really liked. However, it came with a parakeet. Not knowing what sex they both were or if they would get along, I put them together and watched. They got along fabulously. After reading about the behavior, I learned it was mating behavior. Soon after the female became destructive and very unhappy in the cage and would bang one of the dishes and chew things. I learned this was nesting behavior and decided to buy her a box with a "peep" door. Soom after she had a clutch of 5 eggs of which 3 hatched. We were able to give them away easily to family and friends. My plan was to sell them back to the pet shop, but it proved unecessary. Everyone asks me when we will have our next clutch so they can have one too.

My two parakeets are too young. Maybe wait before I do breed them....

anxious to breed my birds!

I have had my two birds since last year and I have wanted to breed them since december. (It is almost march now) and I am planing on breeding them in may or june. I have been planning for three months so far and still only about half way ready. I have time and money and lots of dedication, and I have spent countless hours researching to make sure I know what I'm doing. I am going out to buy all of the supplies soon so I am really excited to get going. I guess you could say I'm a perfectionist! :) I just really want to be sure that I am ready and I know what I am doing so this can be as stress free as possible and go smoothly with no problems. I totally agree with the writer and think that serious planning and caution should be taken before breeding, but at the same time, if you are ready to breed then I think it is a fantastic thing to be able to experience!

Yess!!! I am

my most favorite budgie just died! ;-[ and i am going to get a brother of his that looks just like him! and i am going to get a mate for him! i am doing it for the hobby and the pleasure. not for money, thats just a bonus. so my new budgies will produce nieces and nephews of my dear Drini, [dree-nee] he was named after the river drini in albania, where im from, and Drini had a soft yellow face and a blue breast, stomach, and well everything. he had multiple black stripes on his neck, and a little white spot there too, his wings were white feathers outlined with black, he was the most beuatiful bird, and had a charming personality! he would sing all day and would love to be outside his cage in the small trees, i clipped him regurly. i just miss him so much! he died on december first 2011, in my own hands! i think he died of brain cancer or a brain tumor, but i sorta feel relieved that he died, cause now he is in peace and is relaxed. i would put a pic. of him but i cant. breed ur budgie

breeding parakeets

it is easier than you think. twice a year with the spring and fall our pair mate. they have had 2 sets of 4 eggs a year apart that we have let grow. we had two healthy baby with each set. we give them extra seed and vitamens and veg. it is a lot of work to handle them and find homes.
