Salmonella

Definition: Salmonella is a bacteria that can infect both birds and people. Most of the time Salmonella is contracted through the intake of contaminated food and water.

Birds that are infected with Salmonella often exhibit diarrhea as a first symptom. If you suspect a bird of having a Salmonella infection, it is advised to seek immediate veterinary treatment, as the infection can be fatal.
Pronunciation: Sah-mon-ell-ah
Examples:
People with Salmonella infections can pass them to their birds and vice versa.
