Definition: The term Passerine is used to describe many softbill and waxbill birds around the world. In fact, Passerines make up more than half of all the Earth's birds. Examples of birds in the Passerine family include Wrens, Sparrows, Starlings, Crows, Jays, and Swallows. These birds love to eat seed, fruit, and small insects in the wild. Most wild bird species in North America are Passerines; although a few species such as Finches are commonly kept as pets.
Pronunciation: Pass-er-een
Examples:
Starlings are perhaps the least popular Passerines among wild bird watchers.
