Name :
Baby Blue.
Species:
Pacific Parrotlet(Forpus coelestis.)
Sex:
Male
Age:
2 years.
Favorite Foods:
Baby Blue has a huge appetite and will eat almost anything, but his owner, Ginny, says that his absolute favorite treat is cream cheese and crackers!
Favorite Toys:
Baby Blue loves foot toys like small balls. He is also quite partial to beaded toys that can hang in his cage.
Favorite Perches:
Mostly, Baby Blue's favorite perch is on his owner! Ginny has a special "parrot pouch" that she wears around her neck, and Baby Blue pokes in and out as he pleases. He loves his cozy little "mobile nest"!
Dislikes:
Baby Blue's biggest pet peeve is when strangers get too close to his mom. He may look tiny, sweet, and innocent -- but watch out! His little beak packs quite a punch if you venture too far into his territory.
Special Talents:
Baby Blue's greatest talent is perhaps the fact that he is content to go everywhere with his owner. Many pet birds often get nervous in unfamiliar places, while Baby Blue takes it all in stride. He is a testament to the difference that proper socialization can make!
Life with Baby Blue:
Ginny, Baby Blue's owner, breeds Parrotlet
color mutations, and bred him herself.
Since the day he hatched, he and Ginny had a special bond. She handfed and weaned him, and dotes on him constantly. "He is a spoiled little bird" she says with a chuckle. "He goes everywhere and eats everything in sight."
Speaking of eating habits, Baby Blue could set a fine example for other parrots out there. Never afraid of new dishes, this little guy will dive right in and try anything on your plate. On a steady diet of high quality pellets and bird-safe fresh foods, Baby Blue is the avian equivalent of a health nut.
Above all, Baby Blue is a constant companion to his owner. He is with her (usually on her) night and day, and shares everything with her. He is the epitome of a loyal and loving pet, and delights people both young and old as he travels with Ginny on her day to day errands. That's why Baby Blue is this week's featured bird -- he shows that not only can parrots be delightfully fun and intelligent pets for their owners, their mere presence has the power to brighten just about anyone's day.
