Cryptosporidiosis

By , About.com Guide

Definition: Cryptosporidiosis is a zoonotic infection caused by the Cryptosproridium parasite. The parasite lives in the intestines of infected people and animals and is shed through fecal contamination.

Symptoms of Cryptosporidiosis in birds include gastrointestinal problems such as diarrhea, lethargy, weight loss, and respiratory problems. If you notice any of these symptoms in your pet bird, seek immediate veterinary attention.
Examples: Cryptosporidiosis can infect both humans and animals, so extra precautions should be taken to reduce the risk of transmission when treating infected birds.
