By Alyson Burgess, About.com

This fun and easy Bean Salad recipe is a great way to boost your bird's intake of protein and other vital nutrients -- plus, the little guys just love it! Try adding different kinds of bird-safe foods to customize it to your bird's individual tastes.

Cook Time: 1 hour, 00 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1cup 15 Bean Soup Mix
  • 1/4 cup Hulled Millet
  • One Carrot
  • 1/2 Cup Alfalfa Sprouts

Preparation:

Soak beans in water overnight before cooking. Drain and rinse the beans and then place them in a pot of water along with the hulled millet. Allow both to soak for an additional thiry minutes. While the beans and millet are soaking, Clean, peel, and chop the carrot. Bring the pot of millet and beans to a boil, and allow them to cook for thirty minutes. Add the carrot, and then cook for an additional 30 minutes. Once the beans are done, drain the mixture and allow it to cool to room temperature. Garnish with the Alfalfa sprouts, and serve. Leftovers may be kept frozen for up to a week. Remember never to serve your bird raw or undercooked beans. Raw beans contain a chemical that can be toxic to your pet.
